2 Big bowls
potato masher
ladle
tongs and/or oven mit
4 cups crushed strawberries
1 to 1 1/2 cups sugar (depends on the sweetness of your strawberries)
5 Ball or Mason 8 oz freezer jars (cleaned and sterilized)
1 packet Ball instant fruit pectin (pictured below)
How to sterilize:
First, wash jars thoroughly in hot soapy water and rinse. Next, get a big clean pot and place jars upside down with lids in pot. Place fresh water in pot (filling it to cover the lip of the the jars) and bring to boil. Let boil about 3 minutes. Be careful in taking jars and lids from pot as they are extremely hot! Use tongs or clean oven mit to remove jars. Then drain water from pot and then remove lids. Let cool.
What to do:
Crush fruit with masher in big bowl to the consistency you like. Place fruit pectin and sugar in another big bowl and stir. Add crushed fruit to pectin and stir for 3 minutes. Ladle jam into clean jars. Cover and let stand 30 minutes. Place into freezer (can last up to a year), or in refrigerator (last about 2-3 weeks), or start eating right away!! Enjoy!!
NOTE* Instructions on how to make freezer jam can also be found on the back of the fruit pectin package. Just follow the instructions.
